Interior Casings: soft sausage and hard hands
2019, pantyhose/plastic pearls
Each day women perform between 3-4 hours of unpaid or invisible labor. Taking inspiration from her maternal grandmother, who among a vast skillset could also make sausages, as well as a local sausage seller in her neighborhood, Ecker presents a year of invisible labor in the creation of over 1200 soft sausages. Each object varies slightly in shape, size and uniformity, with the only commonality their utter functionless and decorative nature. The play of form and function as well as gendered materials and objects act as a lure into exploring the creation of roles and domestic space. The audience is invited to stroll through the sausage curtains and ponder the sausages they consume.
